Is this bryopsis?

Just rearranged my rockwork and found quite a few patches like this. I realize the clarity of the pic isn't great but it's the best I can do with our little digital. Is it bryopsis? I'm really hoping not, as I have several rocks with serious infestations if it is.

Cant really tell from the pic, but it doesnt look like it. Bryopsis looks like a fern...

Yup, that pics pretty bad. Do a Google "image" search using Bryopsis as the title and see if the images look like what you have, or get a better picture up.

bryopsis has a ditinctive growth pattern like that of a feather. that looks from the picture like the little long squiggly bubble algae( no that's not the latin name).

The pic is pretty blurry but it doesn't look like it to me. Appears more like cladophora or even cheatomorpha to me. Hard to say without a clear pic though.

Glad to hear it doesn't look like bryopsis. There's no resemblance at all to a fern. I do have chaetomorpha in the sump so that might well be what it is. All the more reason to get a tang, I guess.

So what is the get rid of for bryopsis? I have a small patch that only grows on a small rock of zoas that I can't get rid of. I rip it off and it seems to grow right back. No problems anywhere else in the tank with any unwanted algae and there's plenty of flow there.

That's a toughie. I've had some long discussion about it since Larry had his outbreak. He basically went in and pull out as much as he could and then loaded his tank with a couple hundred hermits and they ate the base of it and killed it. Felipe put a bunch of lettuce nudis in his hex tank and they slowly got it under control. Of course, good phosphate control is a key just like with any algae.

Bryopsis is toxic to snails and they will die from eating it.
