    Default Service ???

i have a question to anyone who might be a service advisor. i know there is one guy on here who works for i think if i remember right nissan. hopefully he can amswer my question.

here is my question. i have called a couple different ford dealers and asked them about doing upgrades to my 06 f350 and they told me that if i do anything as little as changing the exhaust they can void my warranty of 100,000 miles cause i am doing performance up grades. is this true? how can they do that cause you can buy a mustang today and add superchargers chips what ever and it is cool. i was going to install the complete banks kit and they said if i install a computer chip on the truck it will void the warranty with no doubt but exhaust and cold air intake will possibly void it.

how can they do that or can they. ???

Not a service manager or anything, but read the fine print on the warranty. Of course they can do that. Warranties are just like insurance, if they have a way to get out of paying for something, they will. How can they guarantee their product will work when you have modified/changed and your modifications could be the reason for it breaking or having issues requiring service work? They can always say your mods are what caused the problems and there is no way for you to prove they didn't. Usually ANY product you buy has clauses in the warranty that if you open the housing or modify it in any way the warranty is voided unless the work is done by an authorized dealer/agent of the company.

yeah that makes sence but some dealerships will honor your warranty with upgrdes and some will not. to me this should be a universal thing. either you cover it or you dont. what you say makes sence but it also doesnt since some will cover it and some wont.

In order for a manufacture to "VOID" the warranties on a vehicle due to aftermarket performance parts the manufacture has to prove that whatever you installed caused the failed compent to fail. We install Banks exhaust all the time on the Nissan Titan with no problems. As far as the cold air intake goes just make sure it will not suck up water or you will bend valves and that would be not covered under warranty. I would recommend saving your stock intake just incase something happens and you need to switch back before taking your truck in for service. When you talk about a chip do you mean a reprogram? With OBD 2 you should be able to reprogram the ECU and remove the program before taking it in for service.

If you should ever have any problems with a dealership shoot me a p.m. and I might be able to help.

Take a look at this page Carl -

    http://www.sema.org/main/semaorghome.aspx?ID=50096

It's a good page that explains what your rights are in your limited warranty and how you are covered by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. In general, things such as exhaust and cold air intakes will not void your warranty. But, when you start upping the boost on turbos, changing transmission shift points, and adding chips/tuners you get into a shaky area.

Many Ford dealers will not warranty trucks with these upgrades because it is so easy to vent your block if you go too far.

I've run into this several times with my Lightning here in Austin. Covert Ford took one look under the hood at my cold air intake and said they would not perform any warranty work on the truck. I took the truck to Leif Johnson after that and they had no problems with any of my mods.

You may want to look around on some of the performance message boards before you decide to mod and read some of the stories regarding Ford denying warranties on their performance vehicles. Remember, you've have to pay to play.

    Good luck with it.

Ok as a former chiptuner and a guy who had a car wih 4x as much power let me explain this to you. The Moss-Magnusson warrenty act only pertains to replacement parts that meet or exceed manufacturers specs. Now with that being said things like Air filters and such as longs as they filter as well as the OEM.
HOWEVER, do you really think a warranty should cover rods, pistons, blocks that will be taking 100+ more HP and probably 200ft/lbs of torque more then the factory truck? They can void the powertrain warranty, but can not however void warranty on things like switches which will not see an increase in stress due to the intsall of the turbo kit.

yeah i called 3 ford dealers here in san antonio and one in new braunfels and they told me that it would be in my best intrest to not touch anything. one guy very rudely told me that ford spends millions of dollars testing the trucks so if they thought they needed more power they would put it. i will read into the article and see what they say.

does anyone know of any good boards for performance?

Clint the programmer i want to add is the banks sixgun. it is cool when it detects something is getting to hot the tranny is slipping to much and numb er of other things the system starts shutting itself down to a level that is more suitable to not damage the engine.

there main reason one other guy told me is that the engines for deisels are $15000 and that is why they will void the warranty so quick cause they dont want to eat the cost. mainly i think it is a eazy route. now dont get me wrong if it is something i did to cause a problem then i understand i am to blame. but i will get more info before i go buy my kit.
