    Default nano suggestions.

Since there is no nano topic I figured I'd ask nano owners to chime in.

I have a small 3" yellow frog fish that will need a new home shortly. He is vicious and will be housed by himself in a 20 nano. This setup has 50wPC lighting. I'm looking to add about 25lbs of LR and a 2" sand bed. A few cukes to stir things up and maybe a few nudibranchs since I can't keep any fish with him. Some Zoas, leathers, and maybe an LPS or 2.

    My ???

Filtration. I have so many options.

At first I bought this to fit on my counter top but it is about an inch to tall to fit under the cabinets. So now a stand will be built. When I was going to put it on the counter I got a Marine Land Mag350 HOT set up as I couldn't use a canister. Now I have an extra 2217 Ehiem around and since I will have a stand I can use it. What about a skimmer? I bought a Current Nano Fission skimmer originally. Seems a tad chincy to me now. Maybe for less than 10g. Well I came across an AquaC Remora with Maxijet800 upgrade.

So do I use the Eheim 2217 or the Marineland 350?
Do I skip a filter and only run the skimmer? If so should I use the Remora on a 20g or would the Fission be more appropriate?

I think I could fit both the Remora and the Eheim together, is that too much? I prefer using Eheim gear over the Marine Land and would have never bought the 350 had it not been for the fact that I originally couldn't use a canister.

What methods do you nano guys use? This isn't a JBJ Nano. This is an Oddysea tank with glass lid and 2x24w PC fixture. It looks the same as the JBJ units except no built in filter.

All I had going on my 10g tank was two little power filters and an extra pump in the tank for more circulation. I had a whisper 10 and penguin mini, I think. They did pretty well as long as I changed the filter pads every week. I was growing sps in there so I would assume it did a good job. I did not have a protein skimmer on the tank.

You really don't need a protein skimmer in a tank that small as long as you have keep up with the weekly water changes. You will have only one fish in there so it shouldn't be overrun with poo. I changed 25% of the tank volume every week and it almost seemed to be a bit much. I'd say on yours, you should change like 2g a week, maybe 4. That should keep everything happy.
