Default Where to get calcium hydroxide? new kalk user here...

I want to start using kalk due to a low calcium level and hair algae problem. I have a sumpless 55g. I know there are premade brands such as kents available, but is it more readily/less expensively available at some store in town? What kind of store would have this? A basic ratio of calcium hydroxide to water would be of help too. Thanks! (I live in Austin)

CB pets might have some. also, I think ESV is a MAAST sponser as well, Id give these two a shot to start with. Theres really no 'ratio' so to speak, kalk will only dissolve to a certain Ph (12.4) then will settle out of solution. Depending on your containers water voume, Id start at a half cup or so. What is your delivery strategy? Remember, kalk wont do much as far as raising levels as much as it will maintain levels once they are established. A good combination is kalk and a two part balanced system like B-Ionic.

If you can find either Ball pickling lime or Mrs. Wages pickling lime, it's exactly the same thing as KW powder. Just make sure there are no salts in it; the can should say 100% hydrated lime or calcium hydroxide. If there's a canning supply store in Austin they'll have it. HEB sometimes seems to have it in some stores, good luck on that!

Super S grocery stores in the outlying towns around SA and Austin carries Mrs Wages pickling lime.
