Look what we found under our truck

Ny wife was going to work. No idea what made her look under the truck and see this guy. Took the pic after I started and slowly backed up the truck. He didn't even flinch. I'd guess it's only a couple of days old at the most.

Do they still nurse at that size? Will it survive on its own?

It's not on its own. Mom is near by. At this age baby deer don't have any scent and their too weak to follow mom very far or run away from dogs and other preditors. So mom drops them off some place and they lay still as death, until she picks them up to feed. Since preditors can't smell them and instinct tells them to lay still, not even moving when a truck is started and backed off of them or dog walks within feet there safe from critters that there not strong enough to run away from. In another week or two it will be stronger and act more deer like and run from danger.

that is cool maybe it wil be a great pet for you if it stays around. i had a friend that had a pet deer and it was a great pet.

Please just leave it alone... Most "orphan" deer are NOT orphans. Mom is close by, watching. In any case, Mother Nature will take care of what needs to be taken care of.

Relax everyone he's long gone, back with mom. It's not the first fawn we've stumbled across on our lawn, in fact it's extreamly normal this time of the year. We enjoy seeing them and leave them wild. I'd also add that wild animals IMO do not make good pets. They are cute when they are little but when the hormones start flowing their whole personality changes and most become uncontrolable. Wild animals are better off left wild.
