1hp chiller problem

I've got a 1hp chiller running a 600g tank.
The problem is the chiller seems to be producing a huge electric current in my tank. The tank houses butterflies, angles, triggers, tangs, wrases, and best of all a 1.5ft smoothhound shark and two eels. how bad will be if i dont run the chiller for a couple of days until i get a new one.
I've tried a ground probe but i doesn't seem to get rid of it. I'd really hate to lose these fish, any ideas would be great!

if you dont run the chiller, just dont turn on all of your lights as usual. also, put a fan blowing across the sump for evaporative cooling, that will help keep the temp down.

Like Ace said. And if worse comes to worse, frozen bags of ice in the sump will help keep the water cool.....if it rises too high.

I keep a constant rotation of Qt sized containers of ice through the freezer. Thanks for the replys, I do have a new replacement chiller thurs. I am going through my elect lines just to make sure this type of thing doesnt happen again.

I have posted this before but it is something we don't think about much is our service ground, out by our service disconnect or panel. With a drought the ground gets dry and we lose our grounding through out our homes. Water around your ground rod and keep the area from drying out. If your not sure you have one call an electrical company to check it out.

That's reminded me of something. I used to work on the flight line many years ago in the AF and inspectors would come by every so often and check the grounds attached to our underground fuel tanks. When they would get to the shop several of us had the job to run out to the area and take a leak where the rods were to make sure that they'd test out good.


Much better than having to be out there later that day pounding new grounding rods into the same area with sledge hammers all day trying to get through the base rock.

I may wait until all else fails to go pee on my house...hahaha
although I have decided to install a seperate grounding rod (a 9 foot one from an old army generator) and re-wire the plugs for the tank.
the stray voltage really ticks off the shark.
