    Default Fiberglass Tank??

I saw how someone built a tank I believe outta Plywood, I think. And I know that they are made outta glass and acrylics, but couldn't you make one outta Fiberglass?? You could make the same type of design that the plywood is made outta with the shadowbox effect. Or would the resign be toxic?? Let me know what you guys think.

The resin once fully cured shouln'd be toxic and I know some aquacuture vats are made of fiberglass. But check with someone that knows for sure, like a fibreglass dealer. There may be different resins,

I just finished building a huge sump/fuge for a 450 gallon tank and it was made of 3/4 plywood and fiberglass. You really only have to put the fiberglass mat in the seams and resin the heck out of all other exposed wood. You can buy the resin and mat at home depot for pretty cheap. For a tank I would buy the 5 gallon buckets of resin (not sure if HD sells em). The only diff between the sump I built and a tank is the lack ofa viewing panel and top bracing since a sump isnt filled to the top. I was preparing to build my own tank before I came accross a good deal on my 380. +2 on GARF for more diy tank info...

there's a pretty big fiberglass tank at Darby's in NB. It's been set up for over 10 years, but it's fresh water. they used a premade fiberglass tank, cut a hole in one side, and inserted an acrylic panel from the inside. you should go check it out, it appears to be pretty well made.

The tanks that most of the aquaculture guys use are fiberglas. I think Instar is planning on using them for his new greenhouse.

I wonder what would work to seal the acrylic to the fiberglass. I guess tank silicone would do the job. I wonder how thick I should make the fibergalss. I guess it would matter on how big the tank I was gonna make. Man I'm gonna have to pull out my old dive books to figure out the water pressure on the tank walls will be. You know this is starting to be a head ache. I wonder if it will be worth it.
