Thread: 250 pendant and 40 actinic?

Default 250 pendant and 40 actinic?

Would a 250W metal halide pendant with a 40W actinic be enough light on a 75 gal or 130 gal tank? Right now I have softies and a few LPS in a 75 gal, but I am considering buying a bigger tank. How high do I need to hang it to keep the eggcrate on the top from melting?

If this is a standard 75 I would put a couple on there, and personally I'd run a couple of 110 watt VHO actinics. www.hellolights.com has a great little ballast that will run two bulbs for about $40, the wire harness on this is very short and you'll need to add wire, just wanted you to know.

I run 2 - 175w MH on my 75 with no heat issues. The lamps are 3 inches off of the glass tops. I run a three inch fan to keep the glass tops cool. On my 155 I keep my 250w MH's 8 inches off of the glass tops and run 2 - 4" fans to cool.
