Default need help from the computer gods

I have someone who wants me to setup a network in their office, no big deal. It's a small office and he only has 2 computers. He also has a pc at home and want's to be able to acccess the pc's at the office. The problem is that he wants something that will work like Remote Desktop where he can run his billing software on his office computer from home. Remote desktop is only availeable on Xp Pro and he's running Home and does not care to upgrade. Anyone know of any other way to do this securely? If I'm not mistaken, he won't be able to run the software through a VPN connection. Please help.

    Thanks

We run remote software (several types) with a VPN client and remote tunnels (LAN to LAN (hardware)). A couple of Linksys boxes tunneled will work fine as long as the IP's don't chg and if they do that is do-able also just a tad more fiddling each use.
I deal mostly with large networks but where there is a will, you know the rest.

He could possibly run a VNC server on the computer at work and then use a VNC client to connect from home. This though can be a security risk if you are not tunneling the VNC connection through something.

This doesn't apply to Windows XP and maybe I could get somebody more windowsy to explain it. BUT
I have unix servers that run a copy of VNC server on them. This server only allows a VNC connection from itself (localhost). I then use SSH to tunnel the connection to the remote server. Then I am able to connect. If I do not create the SSH tunnel the server does not respond because the connection is not local.

Sounds like an upgrade to Pro would be a lot less hassle and cheaper.
