I have a Dusky Jawfish. Interesting and fun to watch. I have a DSB about 5 inches deep. About 4 inches of southdown topped with about an inch of aragonite. I forget the brand term. The jawfish made a burrow that I think goes all the way to the bottom, which he lined with small rocks and shells. He cleans it our regularly. He dissapears down the hole, and comes out with LARGE mouthfulls of sand that he spits out and makes for a huge cloud in the water. He can cloud the whole tank (120) in a matter of minutes.
Mine has settled down into one place now. At first he dug a hole in just about every place in the tank he could. Made for a cloudy tank for a couple of weeks. He can move lots of sand.
He is fun to watch at feeding time. He is lightning fast at coming out of the hole and grabbing food. I feed him frozen brine. The snails frustrate him. They crawl down in the hole and grabs them and carries them to somewhere else in the tank.
Just make sure your rocks are stable. They can move lots of sand real fast. Give him plenty of rubble to build with.
