    Hey loans_n_fishes,
Back in the day when I was trying to cut corners on my first nano, I purchased the very same (visi-jet-ps) skimmer. I don't mean to ruin a possible sale, but that skimmer did not work at all. I ended up using the pump that came with it for circulation and trashing the rest. The skimmer is meant to go inside the aquarium and looks more like an eye-sore than anything. It also tends to dump a whole lot of microbubbles back into the tank because of the way it is set up (water gets pumped back into the tank from the bottom of the skimmer). Just my $0.02......

After the Visi-jet, I purchased a Bak-Pak and have not looked back since. I have a total of 3 Bak-Paks in tanks at home now.

    Default skimmer

There has been alot of negs about this skimmer, but I have one in my aquapod and after clearing out the glue in the tip of the air hose and using a different sponge material, it does work pretty good, not great but good. Like others have found, it may not be a plug-an-play, but it does work on my 12g. If I had the room in my Nano, I would get one of those 6 foot jobs, but I don't. Many haven't tried it but "someone" said negative things about it on the internet, so they must be true! Others read the trash and pass it on as gospel! There are sooooo many skimmers that don't work for some but work great for others. Don't always believe what you read and always consider the source.

    great info!

since its not an abundant amount of money (<$30) i think im going to do it. i mean, if it skims 1 pint of water a day thats 1 pint more than i skimmed with nothing at all. plus the fact that its the only thing that will fit.

I have it but don't use it anymore. I have the 12 gallon aquapod but it didn't work out in the back chamber. The light cover goes over the chambers too, and that stuffs the skimmer below the proper water level, thus it doesn't work very well back there. I moved it to the display part in the very front and it worked ok. It did a good job keeping the water clear and the quality good, but it put out microbubbles and there was always a fizz at the top of the skimmer which always made a mess. I think it might be better in a plain tank or something, but I didn't like it in my aquapod. I can't give it a bad review, but I wouldn't give it a good review either. Maybe neutral. But for as cheap as they are, it wouldn't hurt to try it out.

    Well, options wise...

Aqua C is producing a Nano Remora that supposedly should be out soon.. they have withheld it twice from what i have read for poor performance. I think this is great, Aqua C obviously has a standard they think this product must meet and won't let it out until it does.

    Another thought though...

Have you considered putting a TLF phosban reactor on the system and running the Tribase Carbon and Right NOW bacteria Richard and mark have been talking about? I can tell you the results I have seen from this stuff in the store so far are spectacular, and they are running a nano cube with the exact same setup.

    something to think about.
