Thread: Linus is dead.

    Default Linus is dead.

:cry :cry Well, I just found my coral beauty on the bottom of my tank becoming food for my nassarius snails and cleaner shrimp. Needless to say, I am saddend by his demise. He had ich, but I thought he was getting better. He was coming out more...feeding him garlic soaked food...cleaner shrimp doing their thing to polish him up. Apparantly it just wasn't enough.

I don't have any hope for a refund/exchange do I? I didn't notice any spots on him when I bought him, but he had spots the very next day. My other inhabitants have been fine...parameters good...etc. I assume I won't be able to get one, but does any store in Austin offer a "guarantee" of some sort for a short period of time. I haven't had him long.

    I miss Linus! :cry

Sorry to hear about Linus. I doubt any stores offer a guaruntee but they will probably cut you a deal if you decide to get another one.

Did you quarantine him first? As soon as you saw him with ich, you should have trasferred him to a QT for treatment.

Sorry to hear about your fish. On a lighter note: At least you didn't have the Coral Beauty long enough to learn that they're quite the little devils :-)

Mine is the terror of the tank... so arrogant & sly. When he/she dies some day I'll probably be about as sad as when I see road kill. :skeezy

Well, I went back to the store to see about another coral beauty. However, all but a couple of them had some ich on them. I asked to see the seemingly healthy ones eat...they weren't all that interested. After what you said, lachrimae, it is probably best I didn't get another. Mine seemed rather docile...but maybe that was because he was sick. I have also heard that some are fine with corals and some aren't...kind of a gamble.

I wound up getting a CBB. It ate with gusto at the LFS and I have been planning on one for a while. My daughter named her "Susan". I knew they ate aiptasia, but she made quick work of my beautiful little feather dusters too. :angry Oh well, she is a beautiful fish and really "makes" the tank. Oh, and she is rather interested in the nass. snails. Should I remove them...or will they do ok since they aren't out except at feeding time?

I'm not sure I'd use this LFS anymore... Sounds sketchy.

I think I made the store come off worse than it is. Actually, all of the other times I have looked there, they have had very healthy fish. I think they must have just got a bad batch of coral beauties. Plus, since these fish are somewhat reclusive, I understand they can be fairly stressed on display with no real place to hide. Also, it wasn't their normal feeding time..just the same..I don't want to buy a fish that doesn't eat in front of me.

Some reason most every time I've gotten a flame angel or coral beauty they would have ick the next day I would bring them home.

Well, I made the mistake of buying Linus after he wasn't particularly interested in the food at the LFS. They had just fed them earlier so I thought he just wasn't hungry at the moment. I will not make that mistake again.

I asked for the times they fed so that I can be there to watch when I get a fish. Although, shouldn't they always be exited to eat? I thought mysis was kind of like jello to them (there's always room). ;)
