    Default dumb question

i was just wondering what the out come of a 5% water change everyday would be. im not planning on doing this and really have no interest its just a question. would there be any good to come of this or bad, besides the price of buying salt all the time.

thats a good question, and now i am wondering why not if you have the time to do it.

Im guessing its much easier to balance out chemistry wise with weekly water changes rather than once a day?

The outcome? A lighter wallet. I think that is overkill. 10-15% per week is about all you really need at the very most.

Here is another thing, with a water change that often, you will at least be changing some of the new water you just added the day before. So, you will be throwing out at least some of the new water with the old.

thats what i figured garyp but i thought i would ask anyway. what about a 5% every week? since were on the "dumb question" subject i have another one. fish are use to being open to a huge huge huge huge wide open ocean with 100's maybe even 1,000's of different types of coral, food and so on right? well how do you think they feel being couped up in a 10g, 26g, 37g, 200g with a few selective corals, food and lighting that you personaly have chosen to your liking? in some way would this be some kind of "fish" crulity? i know people make the water, temp, feeding and so forth perfect but in the end wouldnt they be happier in the wild? im not trying to start a fight or talk "mess", im just trying to get different opinions. please dont get me wrong though, i love everything about this hobby and it will be a long time before i get out.

When was the last time a shark ate one of your fish? Fish in captivity can live a longer and healthier life then in the wild. On the other hand they can be put under a lot of stress because of poor water quality, inadequate food, over crowding, etc. You control the quality of their lives to a large degree. So, I guess the question of cruelty is in your hands. I'm not going to get into a PETA arguement here, I would need to lose a few brain cells first.

Unfortunately we often to try to use human characteristics of "happiness" in relation to the mentality of an animal that does not have the same priorities that we do. What makes most of these guys "happy" is a safe, stress free life with plenty of food.

PETA believes all pets should be set free...not gonna go into the mess that would happen...
