    Default Issues with Ocellaris Clowns

I noticed yestarday that my female O. clown and male had a couple of small white specks on their face. The female had a cloudy right eye and a white patch behind her right fin.

I checked the water chemistry and ammonia was little to none, nitrate the same. The temp had changed from 79 to 81, but with the sump not quite sure why.

There were no other fish with these symptoms. The clowns have been with a host for a about a week now and love it to death. I'm not over feeding and replenish the water when needed. I just switched to RO water yestarday, replenishing about 4 gallons.

I dipped the clowns in some of my freshwater from another tank for about 7 to 8 minutes and replaced them in the tank. As of this morning I see nothing on the clowns and they appear normal.

not quite sure what happened...any imput?

I'd be curious myself. That sounds similar to a problem I've had with mine. I had a pair and my smaller one lost the battle a few days ago. I have been trying to treat them in a hospital tank with Cupramine without any success. I haven't tried a FW dip yet. Maybe I'll give that a try when I get home tonight. The larger has been eating fine but still has this velvety white looking coating on him.

One thing I made sure of first was to check the temp of the water I used from the freshwater tank versus the tank they came from to insure they were close. I'm not saying this cured them but for now they appear normal.

I filled one of my holding cups with the tank water and just sat them in there for 7 to 8 minutes. I'm lucky they weren't as hard to catch as the other small ones...it would have been a headache!

Having them in freshwater for that long doesn't kill them? Wow! I'm glad they're better.

could be brooks too. i do a formalin dip every other day for 10 days on my clowns, especially wild caught, and that seems to work.

Mine was very easy to catch when I put him into a little 10 gallon hospital tank for copper treatment. After about three days I noticeced no change to possibly a little bit worse activity from the surviving fish. At that point I put it back into the main for a while and see what happened. Hopefully it missed it's hosts so much that it might help it fight off whatever it is.

I'll try the FW dip tonight and see if that happens to do the trick once i get home. BTW, a huge thanks to Fin Addict for letting me borrow some copper treatment when they didn't have any for sale at the moment. More than most stores will do for their customers.

i think they may have tried to bed down in the torch coral. mine has done this. it doesnt really seem to harm them, just leaves little white cottonball-like marks.
