what did you guys think of the reef tank at sea world? honeslty i wasnt too impressed. ive seen better tanks here on maast and reefcentral. im not sure but a lot of the coral seemed fake, like it was painted. does anyone know how many gallons there reef tank was and where i can go to find info on this. also there yellow tangs were kinda ugly. mine looks better then all of the ones they housed. just my opinion.

There is nothing fake in the reef tank. We just had a meeting out there last month. The big fish tank display does have a painted back drop, but not the coral tank.

The coral tank is all real stuff. I wouldn't say its the greatest tank in the world, but then 99.9% of their visitors can't tell the difference. I'd be happy with the kind of growth they have on some of their corals in my tank. As I recall, they said that tank has been set up for around 7 years, since their current reefer transferred to SA.

I guess it all depends on which tank you are talking about. SeaWorld does have fake corals in several tanks.

They only have one reef tank, 400 gallons. I think they do a pretty good job of maintaining a growing population of several different species of acropora. The lighting is a400watt 20k Radium I believe, they also add kalkwasser and make their own synthetic salt. Not too bad for a public display.

just went to the georgia aquarium over thanksgiving, they have an 8000 gallon reef, but it needs alot of time to grow. also i didn't see any corals that were anything real special, but they're just getting started. they did have some impressive fish. there must have been around 200 yellow tangs in there, also schools of anthias, and heniocus(sp?), and if you really got to looking there were also many small solitary fish like blennies and gobies. i think in a few years it will be pretty cool. the front glass is about 12' tall, then it curves back over your head to form the ceiling. just beyond were you can see is a large surge device, so it really feels like your diving on a reef(except for the dryness).

whale sharks? is that kind of like a "liger"?...jk, yeah they're pretty hard to miss!and the tank they're in- 280ft longx130 ft widex28 ft deep!! i think thats about 7.5 million gallons, but i just figured it longhand.
