    Default TDS question

I use RO/DI water in my tank. It is at 0 TDS. Just by chance I checked the TDS in my tank and it was at 364. I not sure what it should be in my tank. What is a good TDS number in a tank? I know its not going to be zero but any info would be nice.
    Thanks,

That would depend on what you added so they all would be different. Funny huh ... take it out and then put it back in.

What kind of meter are you using? Typicly, saltwater will have a TDS of around 30k ppm. undetectable by most hobby type meters. It should read "error" or something similar. Im very suprized that youre getting any kind of reading at all.

TDS is Total Dissolved Solids, so when you add salt, or any other substance, to the water the TDS will come up. The reason we want 0 TDS out of the RO/DI is to make sure we aren't adding anything (chlorine, phosphates and so on...) we don't want.

When I accidentally put my Hanna handheld into saltwater it reads "2000...2000...2000 (flashing)" = TDS too high to read!

On the subject of taking it out & putting it back in, see my sig ;)
