    Default Snow Flake EEL

hey what do you guys think about snowflake eels? i have one thats about 11 inches long and he just sits around under my rock all day. hes a pretty cool creature and im sure he will look great when hes much bigger but he seems to be more of a hassel then anything else. do they get any better or is it the older they get the more lazier they become. in the long run is this a decent pet to have?

Does he come out to eat? Assuming he does, you can ultimately train him to come out more with more frequent, smaller feedings. In the long run, it's the famous answer, "it depends". It depends on your tank and your other livestock. They are incredible escape artists- I mean incredible. You'll read stories of them getting out of nearly sealed tanks. Also, they like to eat any little critters they can find (especially shrimp of course) which might not be good in certain reef tanks. Other than that they are hardy and cool looking. So just depends on your future goal for your tank.

I had a green wolf eel in my reef tank and we really really liked him. Great personality once he settled in, cool to watch him slither around. But then a handful of small chromis disappeared, other small creatures disappeared, and he started severely stressing the Clowns and anemone by trying to take food from them. For the sake of the rest of the community he had to move out.

I had a 3.5 foot Zebra and they are AWESOME!!!! I had mine trained to come out more in the day like Dozer is saying and if i feed him with a skewer, he would grab it and tear it like a rabid dog, but if I feed him by hand he would come up and gently take it from me and then eat it slowly. When I would move rock or something in the tank he was always right there wanting me to pet him and then I would gently move him to the other end of the tank and he would come right back and kinda rub my hands like a cat or something.....very cool animal.

BUT YES....Like Dozer said, they are the Hudinis (sp) of excape artist!

I'm just courious Mike, what size tank, what lighting, how much LR, LS, filtration do you have? What life stock is in this tank?

that is a lot for a 55 and the eel will need alot more room soon. 11 inches.......

not only that but eel are poop factories....it seems like you put 1gram in and 10 grams come out! LOL

Might want to think about reducing a little......
