Thread: Acrylic Glue

  1. #1

    Default Acrylic Glue

Just bought a skimmer and collection canistor. They came in the mail and both were cracked. I believe I can get the skimmer fixed by Trigger Systems after I get a insurance payment, but the remote collector wasn't damaged that bad. Part of the base chipped off but can easily be reglued. I hear Weld On is a popular acrylic glue but what number exactly is the one to get?

Do you guys know if weld on is shippable? They just dont have any over in the valley. Whats the difference between weld on 16 and weld on 40? Sorry Lonestar for hijacking, just didnt want to start a whole new thread for something that might interest you as well.

#3 and #4 but they have to be applied with a needle applicator where the #16 can be applied with a applicator bottle. Here is a link that will help out a lot http://www.melevsreef.com/links.html

you can use #4. Tap Plastics has all of them. #3,#4,#16,#40 (2-part). 16 is really thick and can make a mess if you dont becareful. For cracks in skimmers I would you #4 for the actual crack so it can get in there. Then I would go over the crack with #16 inside and outside of the skimmer. I had to do this to a used one I bought from a buddy. They can be shipped, but have to be shipped via ground service. If you have any questions shoot me a PM. Hope i helped.

I got most of my acrylic supplies from www.craftics.com

As far as repairing a crack, I would so as said by Ram, go over it with #4 as it will get in the crack and help bond the two sides back together. Then you want to go over the crack on both the inside and outside with either #16 or #40. I've only used #40 for things like this and it is a bit more of a pain to use as it is a two part solvent and you have to use it quick as it hardens in less than 20 minutes.
