    Default Frogspawn parasite/other??

    Ok,

I'm having a problem with my Frogspawn. Over the past 2-3 weeks or so, I've noticed that the polyps aren't extending fully. After close inspection, I found that there are some very small white critters crawling all over it. They look to me like copepods, but I've never heard of copepods attacking a coral.

Anyway, it's pretty obvious these critters are irritating the coral. There is progressively less and less polyp extension. I may try WW media to get an answer, but thought I'd try here first.

FWIW, I have several related corals to frogspawn that aren't showing any signs of stress or infection, including a hammer coral, torch coral, and a pearl bubble coral. All other LPS are fine, it's just the frogspawn that is showing signs of this infection.

Here is a picture; Not the greatest in the world, but it should give you a relative idea of the small size I'm talking about.

I haven't experincd that, WW is a good place to start! I would try a ReefChem or Logols dip mixed in saltwater from your tank. A dip with RODI water would be a more aggressive approach, but I myself wouldn't do that with an LPS.

I usualy go 1.5 to 2x the recommended amount on the dip directions, leave it in for 5-10 minutes. When you take it out, turn the coral over, holding firmly, and give it some good "Swishing & Dipping" in the solution to wash of the parasites. May need to repeat it 2-3 times over a week or so.

    ... That's what I would try :unsure

What about a fresh water dip? Would that be too drastic?

I think the lugol's dip sounds like a good place to start. Chris, I've done fresh water dips for my clams before, but it really just depends on what you've got. Anyway, if the lugol's doesn't do a thing I might try a FW dip.

Do you think a six line wrasse would pick them off without damaging the coral?
