    Default Camera

i am in the market for a new digital camera. i want to get a good one like the one mark, brian have but i dont need one as advanced. only thing i know i do want is the ability to change lenses to get a macro lens and be able to take pics about as fast as you push the button with a digital camera. i dont know which one is the better one to get i have looked at the cannon rebel slr and a nikon. let me know what would be the better one to get and be resonably priced.

Both are great cameras, if the cost is about the same I'd buy the nikon just because of the extra capabilities. I own the Canon digital rebel and love it but the Nikon has gone down in price to a comparable price to the Canon and has more ability. Don't get me wrong, the Canon is a great camera, it's just the this specific Nikon is a step above the Canon for a few bucks more. Check lens prices though and availability before making choices, that could make a huge difference.

Also, The cheaper Nikons take great macro shots (they lead in this category for digital cameras) but I'm not familiar with their shutter lag (the time between pushing the button and the picture being taken).

Got a price range in mind? You can find some non-SLRs that will allow you to add a macro lens.

You could look at the original digital rebel that was 6mp. You could probably find these at a good price on ebay. BTW, don't get caught up in megapixels. Any camera with 4mp or greater should get you an almost perfect 11x13 print and easily an 8x10, more megapixels doesn't always meen a lot more than needing a larger disk to hold them huge files. Definatetly don't go for the the more megapixels means better quality cr@p that some salesmen will throw at you, I'd put my 4mp Canon G3 up against many 5 and 6 mp cameras that are on the market today.

Like Whitecap said you can buy add on lenses for many of the other cameras out there also. The only reason I bought my rebel when I had the G3 was because I was missing pics of my daughter with the lag time. I'd still go Nikon if it was specifically for taking tank pics, just my opinion.

    Carl,

You might want to pickup the friday Austin paper for the frys add. It seems they have an SLR on sale about every week, and Friday is the day they large add comes out.

    I want our Fry's. :(

I love going there and they have great prices, it's just so inconvenient now unless the price is great to cover the gas price. Not to mention if you have to return something.

no pics arent just of the tank. pics are for family and things like that too. i dont like my camera i have right now for the same reason of lag time and pics get blurry. i just think a better camera is a better investment. and i am mainly looking for a camera i can take "action" shots.
