    Default Wintertime prep...

    Hey all

Now that winter is upon us I thought that I would ask a question. Besides turning on my heater is there anything special I should do to prepare my tank for the winter?

This is my first winter so I am curious to what I should do (if anything) to my tank.

    Thanks for the help!!!

Well since its my first winter too, I have to figure out how to setup my ro/di inside. Until now I just have the filter outside connected to the garden hose, but once it starts freezing I'm sure it won't be good outside lol. As for my tank, with all the pumps and the chiller, it does not fluxtuate much in temp....

Maybe put up a little bit of garland and mistletoe for some festive cheer....

Thats a good reminder (Re:ro/di) probably wouldn't want that to sit out in the cold. From what I understand the membranes can be sensitive.

I didn't think of the garland and mistletoe. If I put mistletoe I may be compeled to kiss my tank. Considering my girlfriend is jealous of the tank, I may be staying at your place for the holidays if I do this. None the less its a good idea!

    Thanks

Setting up the ro/di inside won't be that bad I think. I will just have one line in to the unit and one line out for the drain (through the window since I do not have it hooked up to a sink).

You will evaporate alot more water now that the air is getting drier also.

You should MAKE SURE your heater is functioning properly and keeping your water at a pretty stable temperature (day/night temps). I recommend no more than a 2 degree swing. This weekend would be a good time to check since it is suppossed to get in the 40's at night and warm during the day.

I think I'm psychic...I am seeing lot's of "HELP MY FISH HAVE ICK" posts in the emergency forum over the next couple of months.
