Thread: Euro reef skimmer

    Default Euro reef skimmer

Does anyone have any experience with euro reef skimmer? If it states its for a 100 gallon tank is that all you need? I've been told by others that its best to buy a skimmer rated bigger than your tank. I want to buy the best skimmer for my tank and refugium but I don't want to waste money if it is not necessary. Overkill? Thanks

I second the ASM. I just bought a used G3 that uses the same pump as the ER (which is the secret behind the performance) and think it is great.
I'm running this one on a 100 that also has about 50 to 60 gallons sump, fuge, etc.

well i have a euroreef es-5 for my 58 gallon tank and it's the best i have ever used, i have to empty collection cup every other day, really awsome skimmer, highly recommended! the asm skimmers use the same design as euroreef but not same quality, but i assume they work the same, but i like the euroreef i have 100%!!!!

Diff between ER and ASM for the most part is ASM uses extruded acrylic instead of cast although ER did have an extruded version also not sure if they still do. Considering these are strictly in sump type skimmers (the models we're talking about) who cares if it's cast or not, there's not that much pressure and if it leaks a tiny bit it's in the sump.

What I like best is if your water level in the sump happens to fluctuate at all the ER or ASM will not be affected and overflow the collection cup. I would have to watch my old skimmer when I'd have my arms in the tank doing maintenance and my sump level would go up about an inch or two and my skimmer would start overflowing the cup very fast. This would happen even though my sump is kept constant with a float valve from my RO/DI.
