Really aggressive maroon

Our 3" maroon clown is turning out to be more of a handful than we expected...we suspect her of harassing several other fish until they jumped and outright killing a few chromises.

Right now she's turned her attention to our purple tang and has him pretty much trapped in a cave in the rock. I'm considering selling or trading her because she just seems to need to be in a tank of her own. But Deb and I were wondering...would she be likely to be less aggressive if she had a mate? It occurs to us that if there was a male for her to bully there might be less aggression toward everyone else. What do y'all think?

You could try it, but be prepared to loose the male that you put in there. Females get pretty aggressive when pairing up to begin with and if she is already mean, she just might kill the male(you know how women are :innocent ).

After mine were paired up, the female took the house-wife roll and stays close to home and cook and cleans I guess .

I have a male and female gold stripe maroon clowns. They seem great together and are really docile towards my other fish (red hawkfish, 6 green chromis, 6 line wrasse). One thing might be I have a anenome they host in the corner of the tank and usually do not venture far from it. How big is your tank? Maybe cramped living quarters could lead to tension....

The tank's an Ocean View 100g...I don't think it's cramped quarters so much as the clown is just plain mean.

You would probably be better off taking her out and getting an already paired up set, she's likely to kill a single male. If you want to keep her you're better off with several males. Once she pairs off with one remove the others.

In the end I doubt it will solve your problem becuase she's likely to get especially mean when they begin to breed

I agree with Jade. I had heard they are more teritorial when they are mated up than when they aren't. I have a large female that seems to get along gine with it's tankmates(3 chromis, picasso trigger, pair of percs, yellow tang), probably just got lucky with her.

I'll probably trade or sell her, then. She's a beautiful fish but she just seems to need her own tank. Anybody want her?
