    I JUST PURCHASED A METAL HALIDE FIXTURE BUT I WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN USE IT ON MY EXISTING REEF TANK AND I REALLY WANT IT FOR SOME PORAS I HAVE A 75 GALLON REEF SET UP FOR ALMOST FOUR YEARS BUT I HAVE ALWAYS HAD POWER COMPACTS; I HAVE SOFT CORALS MOSTLY LEATHERS, MUSHROOMS, BRAINS, POLYPS, ANEMONE BULB, WITH A BIG MAROON CLOWN, ROYAL, AND A REGAL TANG OH AND CORAL BANDED SHIRMP, PISTOL, CLEANER, AND CAMEL :huh

    Hi! and Welcome to MAAST!
    Yes you can use it but you're going to have to cut the photoperiod (time the bulb is on for) back because your corals are not used to such intense lighting. Maybe start at running it for 2 hours a day, and increase it an hour a week while still using your PC's. If you want acros you'll eventually want to get rid of your leathers, they are very toxic to acros.

    PS. What watt metal halide (MH)?

    Welcome to MAAST. C.Mydas gave some excellent advice. I couldn't really add anything to what she has already told you. Feel free to jump in and ask more specific questions as your project proceeds. I'm sure you can get some excellent advice from some of the experienced reefers here.
