I bought one at Fry's a few weeks ago and I really like it, and felt it was a pretty good price. Just plug it into any USB port and instantly Windows sees it and creates a new drive you can drag and drop to. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it worked actually (Gates and company have lowered my expectations such that every time I plug something in I expect a hassle, lol).

Well, I guess this depends on your purpose for it. If you simply need more space for your main computer, I agree totally with purejoy. But, in my case, I wanted an external because I can use it as a totally portable storage device. Download some music at home, plug in the external, drag and drop the music to it, take the external HD on the road with me or to the office, plug it into my laptop and listen to the music- without having to put that music on my work laptop (any IT guys in here know that company's nowadays really frown on downloading too much to your work machine). Or take the external HD with me to someone else's house and plug it in and share my music or other files there. Also, my wife uses it to back-up digital pictures to so that we have them in two places before we burn them to CD/DVD. She can also drag something onto it, take it over to her sister's house, plug it in there and share something with her.

So that's my LONG-winded way of saying I like how it's super portable ^_^

I have a LaCie 160 gig external firewire and love it, I use it exclusively for audio storage in the studio. I can record live sessions and store them in the drive, then transport it to another location for final mixing and mastering. The OS and all other applications are on the internal drive. Cool stuff.
