clam question (spelling fixed)

I have a crocea that was originally a sand dweller from what I saw from his placement in the previous tank. I now have moved him up to the top shelf in my tank (over a couple of weeks). In the sand his color was a nice swirl of blue, teal and purple but his higher placement has him more purple and dark blue while his center section is almost colorless (milky).

He is currently in the center of the tank which means he's getting less intense light due to the brace. That was part of the plan to acclimate him to the higher light area. So far he is looking quite healthy other than the color changes. I'm just concerned that the lightening of the center of the mantel could be a bad thing. If so is it a better idea to move him back down or out from under the bracing that is shading him somewhat. Is it likely that I'm hitting him with too much light

I can't stand it when someone abuses a poor clam by frying it under intense MH lighting - you must be a complete reefer idiot to ask such a horrible question!

Oh, wait a minute, the title of the thread was "calm question" - probably wanted a calm answer too ;) Then again, he probaby meant to type "Clam Question" ... never mind ;) ;)

lol, not seriuos at all, I meant to post again but got distracted!

I have my clams under 400w 10K, no problems. They can handle lots of light and I think would retract their mantle if they didn't like it. I haven't experienced the milky color, maybe others can offer their thoughts? Maybe increased growth rate due to the lighting?? The other color changes may simply be due to it being closer to the actinics.

Phewww.. I thought I was messing up

Everything I've read has said my lighting is a bare minimum, so I figured the higher the better. I'm going to leave the clam there for a little while longer then get it out from under the brace.. we'll see what happens

Sometimes these clams will bleach a little in the midline of their mantles. Given better lighting it should subside.

Just give it some time and you should see the midline coloration return.
