    Aw man, that is TERRIBLE! Looks as if the turtles came back to lay more eggs after the hurricane though. Hopefully this occurance won't mark a major decline in the number of existing turtles, as they are already endangered! :(

    When Chris and I went to Grand Cayman, we visited the turtle farm (conservation only) there, and it was amazing to see these beautiful creatures up close.

    Could they have moved the eggs befor the storm?

    They do that in Texas with a different species of turtle, the Kemp's Ridley, when they lay eggs on the beaches here. They let the eggs hatch and the turtles grow out some before releasing them the wild. There is a high predation rate of juvenile turtles before, and within a short period of time, after hatching. By doing this, they give the young turtles a higher probablity of survival.

    I worked for a Prof. when I was in college that studied turtles.
