I was over at a friends house and he has (i don't know why) a water fountain set up, the ones with the whole box that cools the water, and I was wondering if I plumbed it right, would it work at a chiller?

I don't think it would have the capacity to chill a large volume of water. These things are meant to chill 16-32oz of water in a small insulated resovoir. Also, the cooling coils are probably copper which would kill all your corals and inverts :sick
You would have to replace the coils with titanium tubing. Some of the other fittings might be copper as well.
