Gary, I think you may be on to something......its the only swirled cap I have.

I have two other larger flat caps that seem to be doing great.....

    I dipped it last night........
I do add iodine about every 14 days......about a cap full......Felipe said that stuff is VERY stong....

I have done water changes regularly....and good ones......
I will double check all the paramenters tonight or tommorrow and just triple check for any problems.....

You should not be adding iodine unless you can test for it. If you overdose iodine it can kill your whole tank, it is used as an antiseptic and will kill your bacteria also at the right strenght. Never add anything you don't test for. That may just be your problem. Unless you have a bunch of build up I doubt if that is your problem, because part of the white appears to be on a vertical surface. I have had small dots appear under particulate matter but as soon as you clean it off with some current the cap will regenerate in a few days, the looks too big for detritus to me.

Have you added any new coral recently? Especialy Montipora species. It really looks like the work of nudibranchs, look closely underneath the cap and see if you can find any localy colonised nudi clusters and or eggs. They should be fairly obvious if theyre there. About 1/8th inch long, eggs resemble very small white grains of rice, also, closly inspect other Montis in the system.
