do y'all think it can/is likely to jump through the eggcrate on the tank?
Probably depends on the wrasse...we have a Velvet Fairy wrasse, and it's never tried to jump. I DID however, find a Mandarin dragonette on top of our eggcrate one night (this was on our old 75G - we covered the tank at night), but thankfully I found him in time. So in answer to your question - yes, it is a possibility, although not as bad as leaving the tank uncovered.

well shoot, if the eggcrate lets him jump out but prevents him from falling back in, thats like starting where you left off! ha ha! glad your mandarin was found in time.

Thanks! I think the eggcrate is definitely better than nothing though...if the eggcrate hadn't been there for the Mandarin to land on, it would've made it to the carpet - likely I wouldn't have found it there in time to save it (it was 2am...all I saw at first was this tiny, dark form on top of the eggcrate). :blink

yeah im still planning on using the eggcrate though.

one time recently i got home from an errand and went to the kitchen and lo and behold, there was a piece of shrimp on the floor. I thought to myself, I didnt have shrimp to eat recently. Then I realized it was an amano shrimp which had jumped out of my freshwater tank in the dining room and had crawled eight or ten feet into the kitchen. I scooped him up and put him back in the tank. after about five minutes he revived. that's my best carpet surfing story.
