Has anyone ever used black sand on their tank floor? I am interested in using it on my new tank after I get back from vacation. If anyone has, I'd sure like to see some pictures.ics

Hey Brett, I like it! Looks like the black really brings out the color of all the other stuff.
We've got it and love it. You ahould avoid sand dwelling creatures like gobies and wrasses, however, it is pretty rough on their skin.

The black sand is volcanic material and is like glass shards and was said earlier can be very rough on burrowing critters. Its basically volcanic glass. It sure looks pretty though.
The only other negative I can think of is that it doesn't reflect light back up the way a white sand like aragonite does.

When we were in Hawaii a few weeks ago we saw several black sand beaches. Very cool! We also went to one red sand beack. Now red sand is very cool. I too thought about doing a black sand bottom....maybe on the next system
Need an aquarium
