Default Acclimation in very small tanks?

The April/May 2004 issue of Koral had an intriguing article featuring very small "patch reef" style nanos, using essentially a homemade under-gravel filter with an airlift tube going up a central column of drilled rock. They had photos of some beautiful tanks from 3/4 to 3 gallons.

I was thinking that it'd be neat to have something like this on my desk, but some of the practical issues are daunting. One of the questions in my mind is acclimation. You can't really perform a good acclimation procedure for animals going into a small reef like this because if you did, you'd be out of water! So what do you do...just select animals that are fairly tolerant of sudden changes and hope for the best?

I always float my corals in bag for half hour and put them in, even sps. Never had a problem with any doing it this way, although i mostly buy tank raised livestock. As long as temp. and SG are equal in both you shouldn't have problems.

    my 2 cents/experience

I have a nano, when i acclimate something I just mix up a batch of new SW and start the acclimation, as i take water out and put it in the bag, there will be less water in the tank. By the end there is a lot less water in the tank, and i just use the new SW i mixed up and make the whole thing into a water change basically. That way i do a water change AND acclimate my new addition. Just make sure the new SW has the same temp. and SG as the tank and you'll be fine.
If anything just cannot go wrong, it will anyway.
