They should be reef friendly, but just because it is in with the shrimp doesn't mean it is safe. Most fish take weeks or months until they show the true colors (so to speak). Most angels are reef safe for a week, then they eat everything. You should be aware of the threat before adding your fish. With that said the bluethroat is the safest of the triggers.

When someone askes me if a paticular fish is "reef safe"...my response is it depends on what kind of reef do you have or want. I have an aggressive reef that has puffers, triggers and a few others that are not usually considered "reef safe ". A bluethroat trigger is one of the most docile and least aggressive to other tankmates then other more traditional triggers, however , they will eat shrimp including cleaners if the shrimp are not already established before adding the trigger or if you add the shrimp the same place where you normally feed. Most triggers will not bother corals unless they are really underfed. The problem that must be overcome with having triggers and corals is their eating habits...they chew and spit much like puffers and they create a lot of waste becaue of their appetites. This causes higher nitrates which is the bigger problem with corals especially SPS. Another thing to consider is what Tim touched on is some of the more aggressive triggers start out very nice and get along with everyone until they mature and then BAM...you have a killer in your reef...now these are the more aggressive ones that I am talking about ( Queen , Clown , blueline etc.) The bluethroat is not in this category. IMO the most docile of all triggers is the sargassum...it is so calm and shy it is hard to even call it a trigger.
