we will be moving in a couple of months to a larger house. i have been considering taking the opportunity to remove 2 yellow tail damsels. we really like them but they occasionally get a little aggressive when they spawn(every couple of weeks). anyway i have also been considering adding a tang, as i will finally have room for a quarantine tank. i was thinking a kole, or maybe a purple if we get rid of the damsels(to still have the blue). so i am just looking for opinions on my bioload, and what to do with the damsels. they really don't cause much problem, but i don't want too much stress on the tang, or problems in the future. it's a mixed reef and contains 3 chromis, 1 filamented flasher wrasse, 1 black algae blennie, 1 red checkered sand hopper, 1 flame angel, 1 bangai cardinal, a pair of percs, and of coarse the damsels. oh, and it's a 120, 4'x2'x2'

If the damsels arn't bothering the other fish, i wouldn't worry about them. They're not likely to attack a tang.

IMO I think the Kole's Tangs are pretty...especially the Indian Ocean coloration. They are one of the "smaller" tangs, growing to a max. lngth. of 7.1". The Purple Tang could get up to almost 10" and are a bit more aggresive...*really* pretty though. Were there other tangs you are interested in, or mainly those two?

Curious - How does your Flame Angel get along with the other fish? I've always heard they are rather aggresive, and s/b the last fish added to a tank...? We've never owned one, so I didn't have a clue.

As far as the damsels...hmmm... What size QT were you planning on getting? Maybe you could just put the damsels in there, and when you are QT other fish, just separate them from the new fish via eggcrate or something. Not that it would be a "bad" bio load if they stayed in the display as most of your fish aren't very big, but I would be more worried about territory issues. That can cause a LOT of stress on the fish.

i have a 20L that was recently vacated, i was planning on using it for the QT. maybe it would be good to just keep them in the QT, wouldn't something need to be kept in there to keep the bacteria going?
