Our new seahorses

Captive bred Hippocampus Erectus. Finally got them yesterday. Eating well, had some bouyancy issues last night, but better today.

This is a 30 gallon hex with 10 gal fuge and 20 gal sump. It's nice to put brine shrimp in the fuge and every now and then one shoots out the return for a treat. For being fish that can't/don't compete for food, they sure dart across the tank quickly to snap up a shrimp.

Think you will be very impressed with the ones from Dan. The ones you got are nice and have good color and look healthy but wait to you see the monsters you get from Dan !! Good luck.

Thats pretty cool that you were able to buy captive bred ones. I read an article about how quickly the poplulation of sea horses are declining due to their use in chinese medicine and people using dried out sea horses as "decorations" how could anybody do that? Might as well, go shoot a deer, dessicate it and put it in your living room too while you are at it.

Are you going to try to breed those sea horses? That would be really awesome to see pics of the babies. You could even sell offspring to fellow fish keepers so as to not touch the wild poplulation of sea horses. ^_^

There are many reasons for buying captive bred, with really only the downside of cost. But then again, I'll probably spend less in the long run by not needing live food.

I have no intentions of breeding, just keeping a couple is enough effort. Right now I keep going from feeling so thrilled with them, to worried about them. Having some issues with one of them. As of this morning he seemed better again.

BTW, Thunderkat: good to see the tank has be upgraded from tank of death to cyano and algae.
