my wife works there, and we get Geico a lot cheaper than USAA!!! Kinda strange....
Steve,
I sympathize with your situation regarding the towing/storage fees. Nothing like sticking it to the victim, eh! Fortunately, the Vehicle Crimes Unit has the ability to waive those fees for you. Be persistent, because you should NOT be charged those fees.
I agree with you on the state of that impound lot...RIDICULOUS!!! I shake my head in disbelief everytime I see it. When it rains, the potholes fill with water and it is like navigating through a minefield. With the amount of money that impound lot brings in, you would think the City would at least make the working environment more hospitable.
my old roomate's car wouldn't start one day when we were at the park, so, we just walked home. next day we come by after work in my truck to try and jump it, and it's totally torched out, sitting on rims! he had one of the windows open a little and couldn't close it with a dead battery. here's the kicker, he gets a bill in the mail about a month later for towing and impound fees! almost $700. he said "screw that", and didn't pay. a few months later he got arrested for it!(the schmuks had filed a warrant). ended up costing him over a grand. no insurance either, tell me that don't suck.

That really sucks Ram. Very frustrating fiasco and I know how you feel.
I had a motorcycle stolen when I lived in Dallas.
Apparently, the impound lot deemed it necessary to hold it for 2 weeks before I was contacted.
It cost around $700 to get it out only to have the insurance company total it.
Bottom line, I received $300 for having the cycle stolen and then no more motorcycle.
I did eventually get satisfaction as I received a tip about the responsible party.
The thief and I wound up at the same guy's house. I was invited to a friend of a friends house- I really don't think that was a coincidence.
I won't go into details but let's just say that I felt a whole lot better after that. Of course, that was when I was young and stupid and I wouldn't consider pulling the same sort of stunt now with so much more at stake. It was quite satisfying at the time though. :skeezy

SAPD has arranged to have all fees waived! YAY!
Detective Marpo and company at the NE substation are getting a fruit basket! (And any of you fellow MAASTARDS that work there feel free to grab one too!)
