    Pulling or cutting the byssal threads on the clam is extremely stressful
    I've always heard exactly the opposite of this... are you saying its stressful because of the move or that the threads are a living part of the animal unlike a strand of hair or a fingernail

    Yes its a living part of the animal. Yes its stressful. Yes you can cut and move them but I would avoid it.
