Thread: Ricordias never splitting??

    Default Ricordias never splitting??

I have several ricordias and they have never grown new mouths or split or anything like that. I have had a few of them for over a year, and they have gotten big but never reproduced squat. I have some greens, blues, and 1 pink. They are in a 30 cube with 40# LR using 250w 20k halide, closed loop with SCWD, I dose bionic combo of stuff, and feed DT' and brine shrimp. They will eat the brine like crazy, I squirt a few on top of them and they close up around it, then the next day they look all swolen and plump and beautiful but they are not reproducing. Do I have to chop them in half to get this to happen or what. All levels are great and I really dont dose any additives except for the Bionic alkalinity and calcium. I use oceanic salt. WHATS THE DEAL HERE FOLKS. All my LPS are doing great, adding new mouths and growing. Someone please tell me something. Should I start pumping up the iodine? Coral Vital? Strontium & molybdenum? Kalkwasser? etc......... I have every friggin additive you can add but am really trying to stay away from putting all these things in the tank. Thanks for your advice

Be very careful adding iodine. It is very easy to overdose.

I have some rics that I have fragged going on 4 times in about 2 months. I cut mine with a razor blade. Make sure to get part of the mouth if you decide to do this. Also, they heal very quickly as some of mine have healed into a circle within a couple days! I usually frag them into 4ths. HTH!

Well I guess that is what I will have to do. I will cut them in halfs until I get more experience with chopping them up. I was just puzzled because I have seen pictures of peoples ricordias that have 2 mouths, and was wondering why mine never did that. Thanks for the advice.

speaking of healing fast... I had a ric that ended up upside down under the rock it is attached to during my recent tank move. I didnt notice him missing for several days. It wasnt a pretty site when I turned him over but 24 hours later he was looking like a ric again... 48 hours later he has a mouth and it almost circular in shape again and 72 hours later hes perfect (but a bit smaller)

lets see a picture if the pink one. I am interested in showing you how to frag them, as well as trade you a frag for a piece of the pink one. Is it hot pink?
