Maroon Clownfish

Anyone have one that doesn't like to stay in the tank? We just got it today, he ate in the store and again at dinner and seemed happy and well adjusted to the tank. Then my wife looks and says wheres the clown, either good or bad luck landed it behind the tank so I had to pull the insulation out. It had to flop for ? before we noticed/got to him but it beat the cat seeing it first.

Long question short anyone else have a problem with them jumping out?

We used to have a big maroon when we had our 135G FOWLR tank a few years back. We've never had lids on our tanks, and it never jumped (this was over a year's timeframe).

Is your fish OK now?

Seems to be fine, not sure how long it was out of the tank but I would guess a min +. He/she is swimming around like nothing ever happened, guess will see tomorrow morning if it doesn't jump over night.

How is your Hippo doing? My yellow tang we talked about at the meeting is eating like a horse.

I have one right now for about 2 months and nothing of that sort!

The Hippo is *still* not eating offered foods, but doesn't look emaciated either. My 'pod population is now practically non-existant now, so I guess I know what she's been eating. I'm going to order some more amphipods and maybe some live mysis from that place Misti suggested this weekend, but I sure wish she would eat something else. She still acting weird too - basically hovers about an inch or two off the sand bed and hides a lot. I'm beginning to wonder if she's...well, brain damaged or something...? :wacko

I have a pair that rarely get past middle high in the tank but the big female is constantly digging a nest around the LTA... strange behavior seems common

Yeah, I have three cats and the youngest (less than a year old) has discover that the goby has dug passages through the gravel and if she (the kitten) looks under the tank she can see the fish swimming around. She sits and stares at the bottom of that tank for hours. Luckly it is up off the ground a good ways and she has not tried to jump up on top of the tank as it is uncovered. So far the three fish (goby, yellow tang and clown fish) all seem to ignore her and have not tried to make their escape.

I have had fish jump out of the tank before when the lights would go off or come on. The sudden change in light scared them. I now have my timers set to turn on the lights after 10 AM and the lights go off before we go to bed so there is other light coming from the room that helps illuminate the tank after the main tank lights go off.

Didn't seem to mind the cat, actually quite fearless not jumpy at all. My light go out at 9:30 (we are still up) and they come on at 9:30, (room is plenty bright) so why it jumped I don't know. We were watching the he!! out of it and once we quit for a sec it was gone, this morning it was still there and swimming around. My wife took a shower then looked before leaving and could not find it on the floor or in the tank. Hopefully it will still be there when she gets home, time will tell.

Check and see if you have any stray voltage in the tank. I had a powerhead that developed a short and the way I found it is I touched it to move it and it shocked me.
