    Default water changes

I have been doing weekly water changes to lower the nitrates in my 180g tank. NO fish in it yet. I did a water change a couple of days ago and now I am noticing a dard green coloring on the live rock occuring only in one little section of the tank. Any suggestion on what this might be? It does not appear to be an algae.

The only thing I can imagine it being is algae. An Algae bloom is to be expected on a new tank. I'd be surprised if you didn't have one. There are a lot of different kings of algaes.

How long has the tank been set up, and can you describe the dark green coloring a little better? (Texture wise) As Gary said, it's most likely algae, and pretty normal.

It appears like the rock was dipped in green food coloring.

If your nitrates are under control you might want to consider putting in some snails or hermits. Its probably just the early stages of hair algae or maybe a turf algae. It will sort of look like green velvet.

what type of lighting do you have on the tank? The first coraline to appear in my 30 hex was green, this apparently does well in high light, but it was quickly overun by the pink stuff.
