Thread: Moving a large tank

    Default Moving a large tank

I'll be moving next month to a 3 bedroom finally.

The only thing I am worried about is disturbing the sandbed when placing the water back in. If the sandbed is disturbed too much, what can happen?

Is it harmful to the fish? And if so, how long might I keep my fish in a seperate tank?

Thanks Dudes (And Dudettes!) for any help.

hey bud, if the sand bed is disturbed to much the anerobic layer, or portions of it may die off causing a cycle. Worst case scenario you release some nasty gasses into your water, but if your DSB is healthy, i don't think that should be an issue.

if you can move it safely, I reccomend putting a bowl at the bottom of the tank and pouring your water into the bowl instead of onto the sand, that should minimize disturbance.

You could also organized a workforce of MAAST'ers to help you break down and setup the tank as rapidly as possible.

I plan on adding the last of my southdown as well when I set it back up.

I do have 4 other peeps hopefully coming over to help out.

I think it will be the 19th of Feb, if you want to help out, there are some other heavy things as well. Free burgers too!
