Magnum 350 is driving me crazy!!

Do any of you have a Magnum 350 running on your tank?? I bought one about a month ago and it was constantly blowing airbubbles into my tank. I tried everything to get it to stop, checked all fittings etc. Nothing helped so I returned it(Pet Smart)and got another one. Now this one is doing the same thing and it's driving me nuts!! :twisted: I cannot figure out where this thing is getting air from. It must be the disconnect valves is all I can think of, it is the Magnum 350 Deluxe. I have had these filters before(never the deluxe with the disconnect valves)and never had this problem before. Any of you have this problem?? I am to the point of returning this one but I need some type of filter similar to the 350 as this is on a trigger tank and you know how messy they can get. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you for your help.

Hey John,

Try turning off the pump and see if you have a small leak around one of the seals on the quick disconnects. It doesn't have to be much of a leak. If it is then that is where the air bubbles may be coming from. However, I have a power head completely submerged and occassional I will have some very small micro bubbles come out of it. Also check and make sure that there isn't a bubble of air in the top of your filter. Whenver, I start my Ehiem cansiter filter, I have to shake it to get out all of the air bubbles.

Man, I have tried everything on that penche caca. I have turned that darn thing off and on so many times it's not even funny! Driving me nuts, I'm about to chunk that POS out of my car window doing about 90mph!! I'm tempted to just return it and use a diatom filter on the tank once every week or two. I know old school but I am an "Old School" type of guy.

Guess I need to have a movie night sometime soon. Watching the girls get a "little" intoxicated and chase each other around the house with rubberbands again would be fun!! Your more than welcome to stop by anytime.

Personal opinion, Magnum 350's are awesome filters, but not the easiest to work with... I have to turn mine off and open the top to purge air every time I clean it... Hate Hate Hate that. It's time for Marineland to stop doing incramental upgrades (like quick disconnects and bio-wheels) and do something substantial, like an air purge valve on the lid and so on. once I get my sump, no more magnum...

I think magnums are only designed for occasional use, like vacuuming. I've never seen anyone use them for continual use. Besides, I don't think filtering your water that much is a good thing. You are taking out a lot of food (zoo and phytoplankton) as well as the bad stuff.

You neet to turn the pump off, tip the cylinder to the side where the input/otput lines are and let the air purge into the tank, you may have to do this a few times before all the air is gone. Its necessary to do this whenever the lid is removed.

I have seen quite a few people run magnums all the time, maybe we are just "strange" like that. This is on a Trigger tank so I need all the filters I can get!! They are some messy dudes.

I hae done that, guess I need to do like advised by Ram Puppy and remove the lid and try and get the air out. You would think though that after days and days of it running and blowing air bubbles out that it would eventually clear itself, got to be air getting in there somehow and I can't figure out how.

could be a bad o-ring on the lid.

I was thinking about the O-ring too. Any place there is a valve or a fitting could be a source of an air leak.
