Default Kalk and Magnesium and Strontium

    Seachem
Magnesium depletion is commonly associated with the use of kalkwasser

    Kent KALKWASSER MIX instructions
Strontium addition via use of Kent Marine Strontium & Molybdenum Supplement or TURBO-STRONTIUM is absolutely necessary, as well.

Two Little Fishies Peter Wilkens Kalkwassar
For optimal results use kalkwasser and Wilkens` CombiSan, a supplement that replenishes iron, iodine, strontium, molybdenum, all essential trace elements, and micronutrients.

Anyway, I'm dripping a lot of kalk now in my 110 ( I would say around 3 to 4 gallons a day ) so I thought I would ask if I need to start adding these.

Before you did I would test for them, especially Magnesium. You'd be adding stuff without knowing whether its really necessary or not.

Yeah... a good rule of thumb...
If you don't/can't test for it... don't add it to your tank.... especially concerning supplements...

You'll end up throwing lots of money down the drain... or worse yet, end up harming your tank.

Yep, every time I do a water change. I do add Magnesium, but I test for it. I no longer add strontium. You will get a lot of different answers on how necessary it is for coral growth. The jury is out. My main purpose for adding Magnesium is not for coral growth but to help maintain the calcium/alkalinity balance. I try to keep it around 1400.

My thought on trace metals is, that except for calcium and magnesium, you are usually adding plenty through frequent water changes. I hate to be a broken record, but the only way to know for sure is to do testing.
