    Default Tang eating Clam

Why would my 4 tangs be nipping at my clams? I thought maybe it was just the squamosa, but yesterday I saw them nipping at my gold teardrop max. Are my tangs THAT stupid that they think the brown is algae? I really dont want to sell all my clams, anything I can do?

Sounds like you need to feed your tangs more! lol. Tangs are grazers so keep plenty of algae/seaweed in there for them. They may just be hungry and nipping on stuff looking for food.

Alex - with as many tangs as you have in there you should put some in every day fo them. I only have a Naso and a Blue tang and I could feed a sheet a day and they would still devour it all, lol. I have the same problem with my Naso ripping the seaweed up and it blowing around the tank. You can try folding it up into smaller sections so there is less sticking out for them to rip off at a time. I have also tried rubber banding some to a piece of rock and dropping it on the bottom for them to pick at.

Try the Nori from the oriental section of the grocery store. Its a little sturdier and they don't get it off the clip so fast. Its also a lot cheeper.

Dan - a blue regal/hippo tang? That's interesting, as mine wouldn't eat any seaweed or algae until I introduced another tang. Out of all the tangs, blues are the most dominant meat eaters. It wasn't until mine saw a chocolate tang and then my Naso tang eating it that he started eating it as well. I also noticed that he started growing much faster after he started eating the algae/seaweed. Now they are both fat pigs! lol
