Thread: Whats the cure time on PVC glue?

Default Whats the cure time on PVC glue?

I just put some pipe together for my pump, and was wondering how long I had to wait before I can hook it up. The bottle says "wait 2 hours to cure, before pressure testing it." Is it ok to hook it up after 2 hours or just to run water through it to make sure it doesnt leak?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Two hours is PLENTY of time! In fact 10-15 is probably enough for AQ applications. If you are gluing something like the water supply to your home that has lots of pressure, then the longer cure time is better. But I HAVE NEVER let PVC dry for 2 hours ... maybe 30 mins!!

I let mine dry as long as it takes me to hook it together. LOL... Never had a problem.

I just put it together..... There isn't any pressure on most of this stuff anyway...If it was to ever leak it would just give me an excuse to mess with something else...LOL.....

I was more worried about the chemicals in the glue. I know the fumes can make you feel funny. Didnt wanna get anything in my fish tank high on accident. I knew there wasnt going to be any pressure on the joints since there is an open end.

PVC glue sets almost instantly. Follow the directions on the bottle if you intend to put any pressure on the piping. Otherwise plumb it and run it.
