I was wondering if anybody uses an ultraviolet sterelizer(don't know how to spell it) and if they think they make much difference and if they are worth it or not

If Your tank is a Fish Only tank I would recommend to run UV. If it is a reef tank just run it as needed.
I had an Ich problem and was almost ready to give my tank away and everyone on here started telling me that they use them and that I should too.....I purchased one and in the weeks that I have had it I can tell a huge difference. The water is super clear, the algea is not near as bad and can actually me managed, and my tang hasn't had a spot of Ich sense......so just IMO, YES get one, use one, love one.
Someone take a look at this thread here. I think it might help you.

Someone: Do lot's of reading, on this forrum, reefcentral, and on http://www.wetwebmedia.com/. Many folks, including myself feel the advantages of a UV far outweigh the negatives.
I have a turbo twist, its small, the 9 watt. Love it, havent had ich in a looong time..knock on wood.
