    Default Sand

Is the tropical play ground sand that they sell at Wal-mart good sand to use in a reef tank. I don't want to load my tank up with the wrong stuff.
Also looking for a good deal on LR or Base Rock in Austin.

I've got Quick Crete Play sand in my tank and it's been just fine. I mixed it with pure arganite and beach sand from South Padre Island.

I have used both. I found that the playground sand worked just fine for a tank I had running for about 6 months. Then, I got a good deal on some pure white aragonite type live sand so I went with that in my new tank. I do have to say I like the way the white aragonite sand looks a lot more- whether it's worth the extra cost is up to each person. Also, for whatever reason my maroon clowns "interact" with the aragonite sand more- I guess they recognize it instinctively as being more like their natural habitat maybe, I don't know. Of course, this is good and bad. I sure didn't have huge ditches and piles near the host anemones with the old stuff, but I do now because the Maroons sure love to move it around...

elmo- I bought it from Kaiser, who was using it with the tank I bought from him. I know the folks on this board know of good places to get some nice sand though.

Thanks Josh, I bet you're right. For a few reasons I will probably not use the playsand again, mainly because I usually only have 1 or 2 tanks running at once anyway so I don't mind just buying what I really like most when it's that small an amount.
