From the earlier photos it looked like a white spot to me. The sterilizer and diatom filter are good ideas... but if it is an infection of some kind (fin rot, etc) I would still go with the ParaGuard. I can't say enough good things about this stuff... I have used it for treating ich as well as fin rot and other fish skin/scale ailments... without any bad side effects. I usually try to keep this stuff on hand, because you never know! I moved my UV sterilizer to this tank yesterday, and I'm running the diatome filter on it today, hopefully that will clean up any paresites, but the cut looks like it has some sort of infection.
