DoninSA can tell you... I followed his advice to go out to the jetties, but alas, I am a wuss.. my wife was worried about the flesh eating bacteria reported down there, and I had an open wound on my leg, so no pods for me. :( I think Don brought back about 20 candy cane shrimp too.

You can get a lot of mysid type shrimp with a dip net in the marshes. They's be nice for a fuge or even as feeder shrimp.

actually we went to mustang island in Port Aransas...we went to the "BIG" jetty which is the last one on the island.

we started collecting at dark and collected for several hours. it is fairly dangerous because you have to walk down to the where the water is touching the rocks...definitly go when the water is fairly calm. bring a flashlight and a large net with very small holes. all you have to do is scrape the algae on the side of the rocks and you will get a ton of critters. if you really want some cool critters then use the flaslight to spot little red eyes and if you are quick enough with the net then you should end up with enough peppermint shrimps to go into your own business with

If you pull a hand full of sea lettuce off the jetty it has tons of gammarus shrimp with it and some other strange things too. Maybe not all desireable, so you have to sift thru it after you get it home in a tank. Those things that look like little aliens standing up like litte stick figures trying to grab things with their arms worry me.

don, now why did I say candy cane? well.. peppermint... duhh... both candy! I struck out at the jetty, but then again, I didn't go when it was calm, the waves were pounding in pretty hard, and After a few minutes I just gave up, between the waves and the reminder that I shouldn't get my cut wet... baahh...
