I was about to buy a 250 MH w Magnetic ballast is this a good buy...it has a 20k XM bulb...is that good? I was going to get a 10k though. do i need a uv light guard?

You only need the UV shield if you are using double ended bulbs.
Can't tell you if it's a good deal since there's no info listed, does it come with reflector, price, etc. 20K will be much more blue than the 10K bulb where it's more of a white.

The other obvious question is whether you have the cooling, or plan to add cooling, to handle a MH.

ya thats a pretty good buy. thats what i paid for mine.
